Coaches Thoughts

Firstly, as Head Coach, I’d like to welcome and thank you for visiting the Stampede, Herefordshire’s American Football team.

As a new team in a sport with ever growing popularity, it’s an exciting time to get involved with the club. It maybe, that you’ve heard or watched the sport on TV or just heard your mates talking about it and wondered what it would be like to play it for yourself.

In my view it’s the greatest team sport there is. Every position carries a great emphasis on being part of a team, no-one is more important than anyone else and you can influence the game from any part of the field and no matter what size you are, be it big or small, or your level of ability, you can play the game. We have coaches that can teach you every facet of the game and the more you put in, the more you will get out of the sport.

Come and have a go

On Sunday 29th July, we are holding a ‘rookie tryout’ day, which is totally free and you can take part in a tailored training session to give you a taste of what it’s like to play the game. Don’t worry, if you can’t make it next Sunday, you are welcome to join any training session afterwards Sundays at 10:30am and Wednesday evenings @19:30pm.

We start at 10:30 at Greyhound RFC on Grandstand Road. All you need to bring is a pair of boots, water and a gumshield (although you can purchase one on the day if required). The only other requirement is enthusiasm.

Once you’ve tried it and gotten involved, we’re confident you’ll get hooked and want to continue being part of the team and develop your skills along the way.

We have had three practice scrimmages against other teams and it’s expected that full officiated games will be taking place by the Autumn so we will get a chance to test ourselves against other teams in the very near future.

And Finally

Thank you for taking your time to visit our website and I really hope to see you on the 29th and help us build a successful team for many years to come.

Head Coach

Recruitment Drive

Saturday 21st July saw the Stampede descend on Hereford High Town on a recruitment drive for new talent. Players, Coaches and Staff donned their game day gear to publicise the team and hand our fliers to prospective new members. Locals got to try on the pads and helmets and get a taste of what it’s like to play for the Stampede.   Youngsters even got to meet the club’s mascot “Stampede Stan” who made a brief appearance for photos and high fives.

Stampede Chairman Stephen Hall commented “It was great chance for us to show the people of Hereford what we are about and persuade people to come along to the rookie days coming up.”

Tuesday 24th July will be an opportunity for Herefordshire ladies to try out on the gridiron, at the first taster session running from 19.30 to 21.00 at Greyhound RFC on Grandstand Rd. This is followed by the Senior team rookie day on the Sunday 29th at the same venue – 10.30 to 13.00.
